What this is not

It is not a census of talent. It is not an accusation of any governing body. It is not a claim that rugby ‘lost’ a child — Walsh was old enough to choose, and league was also a home code. It is a single, inspectable flow: school union, national age-grade union, Waratahs pre-season, then NRL. The talent-balance sheet should be able to hold thousands of quieter versions of the same movement. It cannot, yet.

Australian rugby may not have a talent-production problem. It may have a talent-retention problem. One pathway does not prove the sentence. It makes the sentence testable.
